TULUM, MEXICO (November 2nd, 2006) ~ EcoTulum Resorts & Spa, a small collection of boutique hotels and holistic spa in Tulum, Riviera Maya, Mexico, joins forces with registered nurse Nancy Myers to help promote "Give a Toy, Get a Smile", a non-profit charity whose aim is to improve the lives of less fortunate children in and around Cancun, with the gift of toys. A drop off station at EcoTulum Resorts', Cabaņas Copal in Tulum, is now accepting new, unwrapped toys to help Myers with her initiative.
Visitors to the Riviera Maya are asked to make room in their luggage for new toys to give to the underprivileged children of Cancun this holiday season. The first toy delivery will be distributed among children in the Learning to Live with AIDS-HIV program. The second toy distribution is planned for children spending their holidays in local government hospitals. The final toy allocation will take place on the outskirts of Cancun, where children live in very simple homes. All toy dispersals will occur between December 20, 2006 and January 6, 2007. To date, 55 toys have been gathered, most of which have been furnished to the Cancun area by visitors from the US and other countries.
Visitors unable to travel to the Riviera Maya by the end of the year who still want to support the cause may make a PayPal donation online at www.giveatoygetasmile.org, or they may send a check directly to Nancy Myers who will purchase toys on behalf of contributors for distribution in Cancun over the holidays.
Only new, unused toys are requested. All toys are welcome, with the following exceptions: No battery operated toys (batteries are expensive and are unlikely to be replaced) or items that require electricity (the children in need may not have electricity). Additionally, toys with English instructions are not recommended as Spanish is the first language.
Suggested items include, but are not limited to: brand new trucks, dolls, legos, dominoes, paints, crayons, perfume, nail polish, hair ribbons, coloring books, sports balls, make-up kits, journals, diaries, inexpensive jewelry, nerf toys, pocketbooks, wallets, water guns, marbles, matchbox cars, blocks, stuffed animals and clothing.
Toys received at Cabaņas Copal will be delivered to the organization in Cancun before December 20. EcoTulum Resorts and its staff will also be supporting the cause with toy donations and invites guests to participate as well. All donated toys will be personally delivered and all financial contributions will be used by the organizers to purchase more toys. To ensure that the project goals are met all cash funds will be audited by an independent third party.
Editors are invited to visit www.giveatoygetasmile.org for additional information and contribution instructions. Nurse Myers may be contacted at give_a_toy@yahoo.com.
